Detecting Useful Landmarks for Visual SLAM
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we introduce a new method to automatically detect useful landmarks for visual SLAM. Landmarks are detected by a biologically motivated attention system. Various experimental results on real-world data show that the landmarks are useful with respect to be tracked in consecutive frames and to enable closing loops.

Top-down Attention Supports Visual Loop Closing
In this paper, we present a method to improve the loop closing behaviour for visual SLAM. Landmarks consist of a combination of attention regions and Harris-Laplace corners. The attention regions are detected by a visual attention system which combines image-based, bottom-up and target-related, topdown information. The ability to perform target-directed search is used to search for expected lan...
متن کاملEdge Landmarks in Monocular SLAM
While many visual simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) systems use point features as landmarks, few take advantage of the edge information in images. Those SLAM systems that do observe edge features do not consider edges with all degrees of freedom. Edges are difficult to use in vision SLAM because of selection, observation, initialisation and data association challenges. However, a map...
متن کاملEffects of Moving Landmark’s Speed on Multi-Robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping in Dynamic Environments
Even when simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) solutions have been broadly developed, the vast majority of them relate to a single robot performing measurements in static environments. Researches show that the performance of SLAM algorithms deteriorates under dynamic environments. In this paper, a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (MR-SLAM) system is implemented within a...
متن کاملVisual SLAM Based on Rigid-Body 3D Landmarks
In current visual SLAM methods, pointlike landmarks (As in Filliat and Meyer (Cogn Syst Res 4(4):243–282, 2003), we use this expression to denote a landmark generated by a point or an object considered as punctual.) are used for representation on maps. As the observation of each point-like landmark gives only angular information about a bearing camera, a covariance matrix between point-like lan...
متن کاملVisual EKF-SLAM from Heterogeneous Landmarks
Many applications require the localization of a moving object, e.g., a robot, using sensory data acquired from embedded devices. Simultaneous localization and mapping from vision performs both the spatial and temporal fusion of these data on a map when a camera moves in an unknown environment. Such a SLAM process executes two interleaved functions: the front-end detects and tracks features from...
